Members of PlayStation Plus will also get the PS4 version in March for free.

Square Enix is adding to the Final Fantasy VII remake an episode featuring Yuffie Kisaragi, but it’s only for the PS5 update. When it comes to Final Fantasy VII, I’m a bit of a purist, and the remake changed a lot, so I’m not sure how I feel about developers adding even more content.
Sony’s State of Play aired on Thursday afternoon, but there were no big announcements to blow fans away. It consisted mainly of updates to games that we already knew were on the way, including Returnal, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Deathloop, and Soulstorm: Oddworld. Sony also revealed that Crash Bandicoot 4 and Final Fantasy VII Remake would be coming to PlayStation 5 later this year. The PS5 variant of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (FFVIIRI) does more than just add another letter to the abbreviation. It will include a range of graphical enhancements, including better textures, fog effects and enhanced lighting, as one would imagine (video above).

It adds loads of filters to a 360-degree picture mode and a switch to switch between performance (60fps) and visual (4K) preferences. The game will, of course, take advantage of the PS5’s specific features, such as faster load times and partial adaptive trigger support.

What may be considered the first DLC of the game is perhaps a more important addition to FFVIIRI. Square Enix calls it clearly a “new episode featuring Yuffie.” The adventure has players controlling the cute ninja Yuffie as they infiltrate the Shinra Company, and a new character named Sonon (video above).

The episode is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 version of the game. The good news is that players with Final Fantasy VII Remake already on PS4 can upgrade to the PS5 version for free. The bad news is, for an undisclosed amount, the Yuffie episode comes as a separate download that PS4 owners can buy. The FFVIIR PS4 edition is $60 and $70 for FFVIIRI, so technically, for users upgrading to PS5, the DLC should only cost $10 at most, but publishers are not always logical. On June 10, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade releases.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is also one of the March freebies for PS4 and PS5 users, according to PlayStation. It will be available for download on Tuesday of next week. Bear in mind that this is the PS4 version of the game which can be played on the PS5 in compatibility mode. You still can’t upgrade from the freebie to FFVIIRI.
