Pick up where you left years ago

When Blizzard officially unveiled its long-rumored remaster of Diablo II last month, the company vowed that it would be faithful to the original. That’s because, at its core, it’s Diablo II, so it should come as no surprise that the content that was consistent with the original including saved game data would still fit with the remaster.

In a recent interview with IGN Middle East, Diablo II creator Matthew Cederquist said that while they were working on the remaster, they wondered if the old files would work. “We sort of pushed it in and it succeeded,” said Cederquist, adding that the team thought, “Okay, that’s the best feature ever.”

What this means is that the original Diablo II players will be able to catch up where they left off, perhaps several years ago, hoping, of course, that they already have their old saved game files intact.

Personally, since 2004, I haven’t played Diablo II but remarkably, my saved game files have survived 16+ years of backups. Curiosity alone about my old Amazon character might be a good excuse for me to try out the remake.

Diablo II: Resurrected is set to release later this year with support for 4K graphics, 7.1 surround sound and a wealth of other quality-of-life enhancements.
