Astra will be available to play alongside the new war pass on March 2.
Riot is beginning the second act of Valorant’s Episode 2 with another character who can break the rules of fact. The creator unveiled Astra, a Ghanaian agent who uses “cosmos powers” to monitor the battlefield. It may reach an astral shape to position “stars” that create gravity wells, explosive novae, and smoke-like nebulae. You can also create a “cosmic divide” between two stars that blocks bullets and suppresses sound.
Astra will be eligible to play alongside a new battlepass on March 2. Free users can get a new gun, a new Versus wallet, a new friend and a new spray. All who pay, meanwhile, are going to get an axe, a Cavalier Vandal and an Operator, another Versus card and their own spray.
It’s too soon to say how well Astra is going to function in reality. However, its inclusion helps to outline Riot’s ongoing policy with Valorant. Like Blizzard did with Overwatch, Riot is betting that the ever-expanding character mix will keep the game fresh after the novelty of the core game is gone.
